Yamaha Files Patent for Electric Superbike
Yamaha has filed a patent for an exciting new electric superbike, hinting at a high-powered sports machine equipped with an innovative design.
Innovative Cooling System
The key feature of this upcoming superbike is its air-cooled battery system.
Instead of the more common liquid cooling seen in high-performance electric bikes like Ducati’s Moto-E racers, Yamaha is opting for air cooling.
This choice reduces the need for heavy and complex components like radiators and pumps, making the bike lighter and potentially boosting its range and performance.
While air cooling may not be as precise as liquid cooling, it offers a simpler and more efficient solution.

Design and Performance
Yamaha’s design showcases a large electric motor positioned towards the rear of the bike, leaving space for the battery case.
This setup requires a special rear suspension to accommodate the motor, adding to the uniqueness of the bike’s design.
Although this patent is promising, it doesn’t guarantee that the electric superbike will hit the market soon, and it may take even longer to arrive in India.
Yamaha’s Electric Journey
Yamaha’s foray into electric sports bikes began in 2013 with the PES1 concept, which was expected to be released within two years.
While that didn’t happen, Yamaha unveiled another concept, the PES2, in 2015, featuring two-wheel drive.
Despite these efforts, Yamaha’s current electric lineup remains limited to power-assisted bicycles and a few scooters in international markets, with no electric vehicle offerings yet available in India.
Exciting News for India
While an electric superbike may be on the horizon, Yamaha fans in India have something to look forward to.
The much-anticipated MT-09 and Tenere 700 could be launching in the Indian market soon.
